11.Aug.2010 the last 24 hours.

repped a solo session last night, charity ledges –> bow valley ledge –> calgary tower benches –> train –> tall can of budweiser –> funeral banks –> north hill ledge.

solo sessions are the shit!

landed:

• front crooks at charity ledge (that shit is mid thigh high)
• fakie 50 fakie 180 out at charity
• half cab kickflip
• ollie mannied the big dock at funeral banks

but enough about me, when i was skating charity ledges this old, blown out looking dude came walking by with a cane, after i slammed he says,

“that’s a hell of a way to make a living buddy”

i decided to shoot the shit with him and he says,

“you know, i’ve been through a lot, i was an athlete once, i don’t talk about it much…”

smelling bullshit i decided to ask him what his youthful exploits were.

dude proceeds to tell me he was on the 1954 hungarian soccer team and they “beat everyone’s asses let me tell you buddy, we were the underdogs but christ if we didn’t have heart.”

dude was actually legit, 1954 was a helluva year for the hungarian team and this guy was a striker, i think, for the mighty magyars.

he then told me, while tearing up, that the trophies he had won were left behind in hungary when he fled at the onset of the revolution. when he went to visit his mom years later and collect them he found they had been looted by marauders.

parting words, “they can loot my fucking trophy but they can’t loot my memories and what i have in my heart.”

touching.

also, i got my toes tattooed this morning, ripped off the idea from the “sweet tats” section in an issue of lowcard.

believe the hype, toe tattoos fucking hurt yo.

flakes and fakes for goodness sakes!

it would seem that i know a hell of a lot of flaky people.

i’m sure you have them too, those cats that will always fist pump and holler about how down for a session they are when you see them at the bar but have “shit to take care of” or are “coming up on a heel bruise bro” when you call them the next day.

and this isn’t even just about skating.

this is about all the people that i know that are just straight up bailers.

for example, i’ve known this one guy for coming up on 15 years and we’ve shared a lot of good/bad times.

he’s blown me off for hangs every single time we’ve made plans in the last 2-3 months.

to be clear, i don’t particularly NEED to see the dude, i’m not having a lil pity party about how hard done by and ignored i am.

i’m saying if you’re not going to keep your word maybe you shouldn’t give it in the first place lest it become worth less than…hmmm let’s say worth less than blogging about how often people bail.

musicians, you know what’s happening here too, picture every time someone bailed on a jam, booked it without making sure they’re free, showed up late, showed up not having eaten, shit i could list them all but maybe i’ll just let the kids in the hall handle it.
